Mary Flip was the life of the party – her 101st birthday party to be specific. Wearing a pin that claimed “another year sexier,” Mary celebrated surrounded by family and friends.

Clearly, Mary has lead an amazing life. She’s a mother of six, a celebrated artist, and someone with a great sense of humor who knows how to have a good time. When asked the secret to her long and healthy life, Mary was quick to credit her favorite drink, tequila. While that response, no doubt, got a laugh, there might be more to Mary’s “pour” decisions than meets the eye.

Mary picked up her love of tequila when living in Mexico. Born in Illinois, Mary moved to Mexico after losing all of her family members during the Great Depression. She was 18. In Mexico she met her husband and settled in Mexico as ranchers before returning to Chicago where her children were born and Mary’s artistic career blossomed. Since that time, a study done by Wake Forest University showed that one to two drinks daily may lower risk of dementia by 37% in older adults. Mary might have been ahead of her time when it came to tequila.

Whatever she’s been doing to live her 100 Year Lifestyle, Mary has gone beyond 100, is still going, and has had one heck of a good time in the process. As we always say, everyone’s 100:100 looks different. Find out a few more details about Mary’s fun and fabulous lifestyle here. Reading her story is guaranteed to put a smile on your face, and perhaps give you a few ideas…
